Annotations for Mastas of Ravenkroft

Lyric: You got your rickety bones, I got my rickety hands
Annotation:
Going off of the double-meaning of ‘rickety’ as well as Gerard’s response to what the song is about— the ‘you’ might refer to the old dude the young dude at the bar is trying to get drinks from. His bones have turned fragile and rickety from his age. And in this situation the ‘rickety hands’ would be the shaky hands of the young dude caused by either nervousness to talk to the old dude or the anxiety that doing whatever weird deeds the old dude will ask him for a drink brings or a handjob

Lyric: X-O, X-O, X-O, X-O
Annotation:
contrary to the person annotating the X-Os above, I believe this line is meant to be more flirty and the young dudes trying to flirt with the old dudes so they buy them drinks

Lyric: Salutations
Annotation:
a more formal way of saying “hi” or “hello”. so the narrator is essentially greeting the listener.

Lyric: You got your rickety bones, I got my rickety hands
Annotation:
The term “rickety” has a dual meaning. It can either refer to someone with rickets–a disease characterized by softened and distorted bones–or something shaky and likely to collapse. While the subject of the song might be dealing with rickets in their bones, the speaker is dealing with shaky hands.

Lyric: X-O, X-O, X-O, X-O
Annotation:
This could be referring to drugs, the X could mean ecstasy and the O could mean oxycontin, so the young killjoys could entice the older men for them with drugs.

Lyric: I’m so fucking old
 I’m so fucking alone
Annotation:
These lines allude to younger men’s feelings about relying on older men to buy them drinks at goth clubs.

Lyric: I’m turnin’ into some dust, I’m turnin’ into some bats
Annotation:
dusted is killjoys slang for being killed, bats could be referring to one who dwells in battery city. Both are a terrible fate for a killjoy.

Lyric: Medication and the way your eyes look into me
Annotation:
Judging by the context of both this and the next line, the other person seems to be acting lustful but possibly compassionate. ‘Medication’ could mean a number of things – and it’s most likely not implying something like Viagra. It would be worded differently. It could be drug use leading to sex, or maybe the person is sympathetic towards the writer (Gerard) because of his drug use, either in the past or present. This seems to make the most sense, since Gerard is the primary songwriter. So, we can assume that the two were very close mentally and physically.

Lyric: Lubrication, can you turn off all the lights so I can’t see?
Annotation:
This suggest the protagonist is talking about sex. Since the lights are out he may have a bad body image and doesnt want to disappoint the other person in the relationship.

Lyric: Reservations at the Cosa Nostra steakhouse at eight P.M
Annotation:
Everyone is so predictable and everything we believe is original about ourselves has already been done by someone else believing they were original.

Lyric: I’m turnin’ into some rats
Annotation:
This can either refer to the “killjoys” or the “dracs” being turned in. (the heroes and villains of the concept)

Lyric: Crow
Annotation:
Short for ’S.C.A.R.E.C.R.O.W.‘, one of the roles a BL/ind. official can have in the Danger Days 'verse.
